Why Most Generators Require Sign-Up
Most QR code tools require an account because they host your QR codes on their servers and use dynamic redirects, the QR code points to their domain, which then redirects to your actual URL. This lets them track scans, change the destination, and charge you for the redirect service.
QR Studio uses static QR codes. Your URL is encoded directly into the image. There's no redirect, no middleman, and no reason to sign up. The trade-off is that static codes can't be edited after creation, but for the vast majority of uses, that's not a problem.
Do Free QR Codes Expire?
The ones made here do not. A static QR code carries your link inside the pattern itself, so there is nothing on our side that can switch it off, no account that can lapse and no trial that can end. It keeps working for as long as the page it points to exists.
Codes that do stop working are usually dynamic ones. Some services give you a code that points at their own short link and forward visitors to yours from there. That is how they count scans and let you change the destination later, and it is also why the code dies if the trial ends or the subscription is cancelled: the short link gets switched off and every printed copy stops working at once. If a free generator asks for your email before you can download, check which kind of code you are getting.
The one thing that can break a static code is the destination. If you move the page, change your username or delete the file it points to, make a new code. It takes a minute and costs nothing.
Check It Before You Print
Free does not mean untested. Before a code goes on anything you cannot reprint cheaply, scan it from the screen with two different phones, then print one proof at the real size and scan that too. Keep the code dark on a light background and leave a clear margin around it. Our test of 48 coloured codes found contrast is what decides whether a phone reads it, and the logo size test shows how big a centre logo can get before the code fails.
